The short version
- You don’t need an account to play, and we never ask for your name or email.
- Your game progress, stats and settings stay in your own browser. We never receive them.
- TVtiles sets no cookies of its own.
- We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you. You can switch it off with the Visitor statistics button on this page, and we respect your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal.
- When TVtiles shows ads, they come from Google. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent before it uses cookies to personalise ads. You can change your choice at any time with Privacy & cookie settings at the bottom of every page that shows ads.
- You can object to any processing based on our legitimate interests: see Your right to object.
This site currently shows no ads and loads no Google scripts. The advertising sections below apply only once ads are switched on.

Who is responsible
TVtiles is run by a private individual in Denmark, who is the “controller” for the personal data described here.

What we process and why
Playing the game
Your progress in each puzzle, your statistics and streak, whether you have seen How to play, your light or dark theme choice and, if you made it, your choice to switch off visitor statistics are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. This is strictly necessary for the game you asked to play, so the law doesn’t require consent for it. The data never leaves your device and we can’t see it. The full list is in What is stored on your device.
Delivering the website
When your browser loads a page, our hosting provider Vercel processes technical data that every web request contains: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and device type, and the page you came from. This is needed to send you the page and to protect the site against attacks and abuse.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Retention: the request logs we can see are kept for at most 1 day (Vercel Pro plan). Vercel may keep security logs for longer, only as long as it needs them to protect its network, as set out in the Vercel Privacy Notice.
Counting visits (Vercel Web Analytics)
We use Vercel Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they use, so we can improve the game. It runs on our own domain, sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. For each page view it records the time, the page address (including query parameters that contain nothing personal), the referring site, your browser, operating system and device type, and an approximate location (country, region and city) derived from your IP address. Visitors are counted with a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, so we see totals, not individuals. Your IP address is not stored.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding, in aggregate, how the site is used (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Retention: our dashboard shows these statistics for 12 months (Vercel Pro plan). Vercel may keep the aggregated data longer so it stays available if we change plans.
- Switch it off: use the Visitor statistics button near the top of this page. Your browser then stops counting your visits, and it remembers the choice in local storage (
tvtiles:v1:analytics-off). If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we don’t count your visits at all.
Advertising and cookies
TVtiles is free because it can show ads served by Google AdSense. Google’s consent tool comes with the ads and, in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, asks for your choice before any advertising cookies are used. The tool is certified under the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) and lists every advertising partner it would share data with. While no ads are shown, none of this happens and no Google script loads.
- If you consent: Google and the partners listed in the consent message may use cookies and similar identifiers on your device to show ads based on your interests, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ads and prevent fraud.
- If you don’t consent: you can still play everything. Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads, which use only the data needed to deliver the ad (such as your IP address, device and the page), count it and fight fraud.
- Legal basis for cookies and personalised ads: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules on device storage), given and recorded through Google’s consent tool.
- Legal basis for limited or non-personalised ads without consent: our and Google’s legitimate interest in funding a free game with advertising and in preventing ad fraud (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to this in Google’s consent message under Legitimate interest.
- Who decides: TVtiles and Google may be jointly responsible for collecting your data through the ad code on our pages and passing it to Google. Google alone decides how it uses that data afterwards, as an independent controller. How Google uses this data is explained in How Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Change or withdraw your choice at any time: select Privacy & cookie settings at the bottom of any page that shows ads (when ads are on, this page has the same button near the top). Google’s consent message opens again with the same options to consent, not consent or manage your choices, so withdrawing is as easy as agreeing. If you are outside the regions where Google shows this message, you can control ad personalisation in Google My Ad Center.
Outside the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google may show ads based on the rules that apply where you are. If you use an ad blocker, no Google scripts load at all and the game still works.
Your right to object
You have the right to object, at any time and for reasons that relate to your situation, to processing based on our legitimate interests (Article 21 GDPR). This covers:
- visitor statistics: switch them off with the Visitor statistics button on this page, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser;
- limited or non-personalised ads: object under Legitimate interest in Google’s consent message (Privacy & cookie settings), or use an ad blocker;
- hosting logs: email us at dinegenerated@gmail.com. These logs are needed to deliver the site securely, so we may keep them where we have compelling grounds, but they are deleted quickly anyway (see above).
If you object, we stop that processing unless the law allows us to continue.
What is stored on your device
Stored by TVtiles (no consent needed: strictly necessary for the game). These live in your browser’s local storage, are never sent to us and stay until you clear this site’s data in your browser.
| Name | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
tvtiles:v1:game:<number> |
Your progress in that puzzle (your guesses, solved groups, mistakes), so a refresh doesn’t lose your game. One entry per puzzle you play. | Until you clear site data |
tvtiles:v1:stats |
Your statistics: games played, win rate, current and best streak, wins by number of mistakes. | Until you clear site data |
tvtiles:v1:seen-how-to |
Remembers that you’ve seen How to play, so it doesn’t open every visit. | Until you clear site data |
tvtiles:v1:theme |
Your light or dark theme choice, only if you use the theme switch. | Until you clear site data |
tvtiles:v1:analytics-off |
Remembers that you switched visitor statistics off, only if you did. | Until you switch them back on or clear site data |
Stored by Google (only on pages that show ads). Google’s scripts may set these on our domain and on Google’s own domains. Names and lifetimes are set by Google and can change; the current list is in How Google uses cookies.
| Name (examples) | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
FCCDCF, FCNEC (cookies), google_auto_fc_cmp_setting (local storage) |
Run Google’s consent tool and remember your consent choice, so you aren’t asked on every page. Needed to respect your choice, so no consent is asked for these. | Up to 13 months |
__gads, __gpi, __eoi, IDE and similar |
Show, cap and measure ads, prevent fraud and, with your consent, personalise ads. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland only with your consent. | Up to 13 months |
Who receives data
- Vercel Inc. (USA) hosts the website and provides the visitor statistics. Vercel processes data only on our instructions under a data processing agreement.
- Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) for visitors in the EEA and Switzerland, and Google LLC (USA) for everyone else, serve the ads and run the consent tool, when ads are shown.
- Advertising partners listed in Google’s consent message, only if you consent to them or don’t object to their legitimate interests.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we never receive your game data.
International transfers
Vercel and Google may process data in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (including its UK extension and the Swiss-US framework), which the European Commission recognises as providing adequate protection. Where that doesn’t apply, they use the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum for UK data).
Your rights
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have it corrected if it’s wrong;
- have it erased;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests (see Your right to object);
- receive it in a portable format (data portability);
- withdraw your consent at any time, with Privacy & cookie settings at the bottom of any page that shows ads. Withdrawing doesn’t affect anything done before.
To use these rights, email dinegenerated@gmail.com. In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you: your game data is only on your device (you can delete it yourself by clearing this site’s data), and our statistics are aggregated, so we usually can’t single out your visits. For ad data, Google is the right contact; see Google’s privacy tools.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. Ours is the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk), but you can also complain to the authority where you live or work. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
You don’t have to give us any personal data to play. We don’t make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. Google’s ad personalisation, if you consent to it, is described in Google’s policies linked above.
Children
TVtiles is a general-audience puzzle and isn’t aimed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the higher age set in your country, up to 16 in the EU). If you think a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS and uses strict browser security settings. It loads no third-party code, except Google’s ad and consent scripts on pages that show ads.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, such as a new kind of tracking, we’ll ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
